Jason will get you to the water taxi and let us know which boat you are on. We now sell San Pedro Belize Express Water Taxi, we can reserve your water taxi tickets If you like, they are $15 USD per person -one way, $25 USD per person – two way. Someone, usually one of our regular taxi drivers here on the caye, will meet you as you come off the dock at Caye Caulker and will be holding the same sign. They will charge you $2.50 USD per person per stop for the ride to our office and then onto the house rental. We will look after you from there.

More and more travelers are finding their way to Caye Caulker and Belize thru Cancun and Chetumal, Mexico. Inexpensive flights to Cancun are readily available and the bus line ADO services the run from Cancun to Chetumal. Two of the three water taxi companies, San Pedro Express and Water Jets Express, have daily runs from Chetumal to San Pedro on Ambergris Caye in Belize, where you will clear Belize Customs and then a 30 minute boat ride to Caye Caulker, usually arriving around 6:30 pm at night. Depending on when your flight into Cancun arrives, you may have to make the journey from Cancun to Chetumal the following day.
Caye Caulker Via Chetumal, Mexico
If you have booked a rental with us and arranged for our driver to pick you up from the international airport, here is the contingency plan should your flight arrive too late to make the last water taxi.
Our driver will still meet your flight and pick you up. He will take you to a safe, clean and moderately priced hotel called the Coningsby Inn for the night. You will arrange with him to be picked up in the morning and taken to the appropriate water taxi to come out to the Caye. Your driver will let us know what boat you are on and we will meet you.
The beaches here on the Caye tend to be soft & weedy due to the fact the reef protects us from the Caribbean surf and does not allow it to scour the sand free of growth. This allows the island to survive as wave action would eventually wear the Caye completely away. It also contributes to a vibrant ecosystem which encourages sea life to flourish.
Swimming on the Caye is usually done off piers or at The Split, where the island is divided into its 2 separate parts. The Split offers sand, clear water and an abundance of small fish to observe. There is current from time to time but it is easily read and overcome. The Split is the best place to freelance snorkel and is suitable for children.
Supplies & Provisions
Most everything you would need to supply your kitchen with staples is available on the Caye. We have 2 larger (relative term) grocery stores and numerous smaller suppliers as well. You will find that prices are surprisingly high for some items but keep in mind that everything comes to the Caye by boat or barge.
A number of our rentals are on the new, Health Board approved water system and this water is safe to drink. However, we do still have rentals that are not. In these cases, a 5 gallon jug of water is supplied by the house to start your visit. Subsequent jugs will be provided as needed and delivered at a cost of $5.00 BZ per jug. Please try to inform us the day before you require it, so we can be sure to get it to you.
There are no cars here. There are golf carts, bikes and legs. Most guests who stay further south of the main village rent bikes for the duration of their stay. They are cheap at US$7.50 per day/US$30 per week and we can make arrangements on your behalf. The golf cart rentals are more expensive at around US$360 per week. For the most part Caye Caulker is small and walking is possible all over the place.
We do have a Post Office here on the Caye for any snail mail you would like to send. The service is notoriously slow, but usually reliable.
There are a number of Internet cafes available for those guests who stay in rentals that do not feature complimentary WI-FI. The rates are low and they shops are scattered about the village and usually open quite late.
Fresh Fruits, Vegetables & Local Fish
There are several fruit & vegetable stands in the village that will have whatever is in season. Stock will ebb and flow with barge deliveries, so Wednesday and Saturday mornings are the best time to purchase perishables.
Local fresh fish can be purchased on the front beach (east side of the Caye) between 1pm and 4pm in the afternoon. Watch for the frigate birds circling down low. You will know someone is cleaning fish. You will pay between $10 & $12BZ for fillet. Lobster will also be available from time to time, but please be careful not to buy undersized. The tail should be at least 4 inches in length.
There are a number of laundry services on the Caye, where you can have your laundry done for you at a reasonable cost and there is one coin operated laundromat where you can do it yourself. Our cleaning staff also does laundry for our guests at $10 USD per load, this included, pickup, deliver, laundry detergent, dry and fold (saves you all the difficulty into town). We recommend that delicates and favorites be washed by hand to avoid damage or staining by the ever present rust that inhabits most machines in the Tropics.
